It’s that time again! We’re back for another weekly roundup of all things social media in Oil Country! This week, we put the wraps on a really entertaining #NHL17McDavid
campaign, check in on our new arena Rogers Place, highlight some of our favourite GIFs from the past seven days of action at the IIHF World Championship and shine the spotlight on some more awesome Oilers fans.
Well, our guy Connor McDavid unfortunately didn’t make it to the final round of the #NHL17CoverVote
, as San Jose’s Joe Pavelski and St. Louis’ Vladimir Tarasenko are now squaring off for the right to grace the cover of the new EA Sports
game. However, Connor and his Team Canada teammates had a whole pile of fun on Twitter during Monday’s last push for the semifinal round, as they tried to drum up votes for the 2016 Calder finalist. It’ll be interesting to see if any of their outlandish promises come to fruition!
Oh man, are things ever getting exciting in downtown Edmonton! Not only is @RogersPlace
as a whole getting closer and closer to completion by the day, slated to open this September, the massive, magnificent scoreboard is being installed as you read this! The cubic design will be the largest true HD arena scoreboard in North America, measuring 46-feet wide by 46-feet deep by 36-feet high. Want to learn more about the centrepiece of the new rink? We launched our brand new weekly show this week, called Ice Level. Give it a watch for the full scoop!
GIFS OF THE WEEK
The first week of competition at the 2016 #IIHFWorlds
has been jam-packed with awesomeness from an Oilers perspective, as we have seven players competing and contributing for their respective countries. For Team Canada
, Connor McDavid and Taylor Hall hooked up for the goal of the tournament thus far during Sunday’s victory over Hungary. Meanwhile, Cam Talbot has been nearly perfect between Canada’s pipes, posting three wins in three starts thus far. And #HendyHugs
have gone international for the American squad
, as Captain Matt Hendricks is making sure his teammates get proper adulation for their success..
OIL COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT
And speaking of Oilers veteran Matt Hendricks, one of his biggest fans tweeted us this photo of relief as she was able to take her #23 jersey with her as she was forced to evacuate Fort McMurray as a result of the devastating wildfire. We’re very happy both Rhonda and her favourite jersey were able to make it out unscathed! Want to see your photo or video in our spotlight next week? Remember to include @edmontonoilers
in your tweets and Instagram posts, or upload them on our Facebook page
