Time for another look back at the week that was in Oil Country! In our latest social media roundup, Connor McDavid takes his skills to the ballpark, the hockey world honours one of the all-time greats, we see what a few Oilers are up to during their off-season and, as always, we shine the spotlight on our awesome fans.
PLAY BALL! Connor McDavid got to toss the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Calder Trophy finalist was invited to Rogers Centre on official World Cup of Hockey
duties to help promote this September’s tournament in Toronto and show off the Team North America jersey in which he’ll be competing.
The hockey world lost one of its all-time greats on Friday as Gordie Howe passed away at age 88. The legend from small-town Saskatchewan undoubtedly left his mark on millions of people in hockey, many of them in Oil Country as #MrHockey
developed a special bond with Wayne Gretzky and the city of Edmonton. Gordie’s passing on Friday brought with it a flood of memories and tributes.
Time once again to check in with a couple of Oilers to see how they’re spending their downtime this off-season while they’re not training for the 2016-17 campaign. Zack Kassian has been hanging out in Southern California, cruising the streets on his motorcycle with former UFC superstar Randy Couture and FOX broadcaster Jay Glazer. Griffin Reinhart is off to Hawaii for a family trip to celebrate his parents’ 30th anniversary. And Patrick Maroon brought his son Anthony to the Gretzky Hockey School in St. Louis, getting some quality time with The Great One himself.
