The New Year and the second half of the NHL season are fully upon us! Mid-season = all-star season for one Oilers superstar, as fans celebrated Taylor Hall’s selection this week. It was also prize redemption time for a contest we ran with our partner Henry Singer, while a new post-victory tradition is quickly gaining fan attention. Enjoy this week’s #OilCountry social media recap!

We got some great news earlier this week when it was announced Taylor Hall (@hallsy04) will be representing the Oilers at the 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend in Nashville, January 30-31. Hall has been an elite-level player for the Oil this season, leading the team in goals (16), assists (25) and points (41), putting him sixth in the League scoring race. Fans were quick to congratulate #4 and join the all-star conversation with #NHLAllStar following the announcement:

Representing Taylor Hall at work. Upon his All-star team selection! #HallGood #Hallstar

Oilers winger Nail Yakupov (@Nail10_1993) isn’t quite ready to get back in the lineup as he recovers from an ankle injury, but he did partake in some fun with a lucky fan on Wednesday at Henry Singer (@HenrySingerInfo) in downtown Edmonton. Danick was the grand prize winner of our #SingerSuitUp contest, receiving $2,500 to spend on some sharp new clothes and the opportunity to help Nail pick out some new threads as well.

Thanks @danickdee for helping me pick out a new suit at @HenrySingerInfo #SingerSuitUp

#HendyHugs are quickly becoming a thing! Whenever the Oilers post a victory, veteran Matt Hendricks (@MattHendy26) identifies a teammate and attacks him with a celebratory hug. The most recent “victim” of Hendy’s bro love was Andrej Sekera on Tuesday night after the d-man scored the overtime winner to beat the Carolina Hurricanes. Our first fan spotlight this week comes all the way from Germany, as Season Seat Holder Neil Gibson’s daughter currently resides there as a professional dancer with Dresden SemperOper Ballett. Like father, like daughter, she’s a huge Oilers fan, and she often sports the t-shirt of Deutchsland’s own Leon Draisaitl (@Drat_29) as she warms up before a competition. The spotlight is shared this week as another Season Seat Holder, Brenda, sent us a great shot of her grandkids on the ODR at Alberta Beach.
