Hometown Hockey arrives in Edmonton, Brick Best Seats continues and much more in this week's edition of our social media blog

by Ryan Frankson /

We're back for another instalment of our weekly social media roundup! Hometown Hockey has invaded the city this weekend, we update you on a pair of exciting contests, #CaptainConnor steals the show in our GIFs of the week and, as always, we shine the spotlight on some Oilers fan post. Enjoy!

Hometown Hockey has taken over downtown Edmonton this weekend, with the Sportsnet travelling road show setting up shop in Sir Winston Churchill Square! Oilers legends Mark Messier, Ryan Smyth and Marty McSorley will be participating in autograph sessions and other events throughout the weekend, all wrapped around tomorrow's matinee game against Montreal. Check out the schedule below, bundle up and make sure you tag #HometownHockey on all your posts as you enjoy the festivities!

Two of our popular #BrickBestSeats bobbleheads hit the road today to The Brick in South Edmonton Common! You can find the bobbleheads on the Rogers Place main concourse during all Oilers home games, but occasionally throughout the season we bring them in-store for fans who may not be able to make it to games. Whether you encounter them on the road or at the rink, take a photo with them and send it our way with the hashtag for your chance to win tickets, mini versions of the bobbleheads and gift cards to #TheBrick!

Do you know a long-distance Oilers fan who would love a trip to Edmonton to watch a home game? Air Canada wants to fly in one lucky fan to watch their favourite team in action! Time is running out to tell us why your friend or family member deserves this VIP experience by commenting on our Facebook and Instagram posts, or by tweeting us with #FanFlight.

Connor McDavid proved once again why he's one of the most electrifying players in the NHL on Friday night as he scored a brilliant breakaway backhand goal against the Carolina Hurricanes. Despite breaking his stick just moments before receiving the pass that sent him in alone, the captain got a bench assist from Head Equipment Manager Jeff Lang and an on-ice feed from Oscar Klefbom before beating goaltender Cam Ward. McDavid said during the ensuing intermission that teammate Zack Kassian also gave him a heads-up from the bench that the stretch pass from Klefbom was on its way. The highlight-reel sequence is chronicled in this week's top GIFs!
