What a week! Between an offensive explosion against the Arizona Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers, to Eric Gryba getting his beard shaved for charity, there was a lot going on over the past seven days in Oil Country. Oh, and we also launched a new contest with one of our corporate partners. Soak it all in with this week's social media roundup!
BYE BYE BEARD
As we introduced to you last week, Oilers d-man Eric Gryba had an awesome idea to coincide with Garth Brooks coming to Edmonton to play nine concerts at Rogers Place. Gryba decided to shave his beard and donate $5,000 to Garth's charity Teammates For Kids if Oilers fans gave him 5,000 likes on his video about the challenge. Not only did that goal get surpassed, the video eclipsed 25,000 likes, with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, Garth and his wife Trisha Yearwood also donating funds, for more than $20,000 for the charity. With all the goals reached, all that was left to do was shave the beard! Thanks to an assist from Stollery representative Ethan, Eric's face got quite the makeover on Wednesday morning.
We're celebrating the great game of hockey from coast to coast today as Scotiabank presents #HockeyDay in Canada! All seven Canadian teams are in action throughout the day, with six squaring off against each other and Edmonton visiting Chicago. Make sure you use the hashtag and mention the Oilers in your social media posts to show us how you're celebrating!
How would you like tickets to see the Oilers take on the Los Angeles Kings on March 28? All you have to do is tweet us & Bridgestone expressing your desire to go to the game! It doesn't get much easier than that. Happy tweeting and best of luck!
GIFS OF THE WEEK
With 11 goals in two games, there were plenty of awesome moments captured in GIFs this week! We've selected the top celebrations from the wins over Arizona and Philadelphia as our favourites.
