We say goodbye to Eric Gryba's beard, hello to Garth Brooks, celebrate Hockey Day in Canada and much more in our weekly social media blog

by Ryan Frankson /

What a week! Between an offensive explosion against the Arizona Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers, to Eric Gryba getting his beard shaved for charity, there was a lot going on over the past seven days in Oil Country. Oh, and we also launched a new contest with one of our corporate partners. Soak it all in with this week's social media roundup!

As we introduced to you last week, Oilers d-man Eric Gryba had an awesome idea to coincide with Garth Brooks coming to Edmonton to play nine concerts at Rogers Place. Gryba decided to shave his beard and donate $5,000 to Garth's charity Teammates For Kids if Oilers fans gave him 5,000 likes on his video about the challenge. Not only did that goal get surpassed, the video eclipsed 25,000 likes, with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, Garth and his wife Trisha Yearwood also donating funds, for more than $20,000 for the charity. With all the goals reached, all that was left to do was shave the beard! Thanks to an assist from Stollery representative Ethan, Eric's face got quite the makeover on Wednesday morning.

Tweet from @EdmontonOilers: Thanks to our new pal Ethan from @StolleryKids, Eric's face is about to get a lot lighter! What do you think, @garthbrooks?

Tweet from @EdmontonOilers: Who's the fresh-faced rookie?!

Tweet from @EdmontonOilers: More than 20k video likes & $20k raised for @teammates4kids thanks to #Oilers d-man @grybes02's beard shave fundraiser!

It's all done! Thank you everybody!
