Welcome to a special Boxing Day edition of our social media blog! The Oilers got a well-deserved four-day holiday break after beating the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 on Monday at Rexall Place, and from there it was all Christmas all the time as Oilers fans across the world shared their festive moments. This is also the final social blog of 2015, so we’ll count down our top five player tweets from the past calendar year. Enjoy!

Santa was VERY good to Oil Country! Jerseys, shirts, sweaters, onesies, toques and many more blue and orange presents found their way into the stockings and under the tress of Oilers fans this Christmas. Congrats to Marc Blackwood and Jenessa Schafer who won an Oilers holiday prize pack for sending us their #HockeyHolidays photos!

The season is just over a third complete, but the calendar year comes to an end this week, so it’s time to look back! From Blue Jays support, to gold medals in Prague, to an historic NHL Draft, here are our top five player tweets of 2015:

5. The Toronto Blue Jays captivated Canadian sports fans with their MLB playoff run, and that included several Oilers players. By a stroke of scheduling luck, the team had a day off in Dallas the same day the Jays were playing the Texas Ranges in the opening round of the post-season. Many Oilers attended the game and got to visit with their baseball heroes in the clubhouse, including Teddy Purcell with Jose Bautista.

4. Taylor Hall never misses an opportunity to send a playful Twitter jab at teammate Jordan Eberle, and the Hockey Canada champions banquet was no exception as the fellas received their rings for winning IIHF Worlds.

3. Speaking of the IIHF World Championship, Eberle tweeted this celebratory photo with Hall just moments after Canada defeated Russia 6-1 in the gold medal game from Prague, Czech Republic.

2. April 18, 2015 is a date that will be cemented in Oilers history as we won the NHL Draft Lottery, giving the team the opportunity to select highly-touted prospect Connor McDavid. Hall made sure his future teammate would know who to look for on his left side when the 2015-16 season got going.

1. Just over two months later in Sunrise, Florida, McDavid had his childhood dream come true as the Oilers selected him with the first-overall pick at the NHL Draft.

Oilers goalie Cam Talbot was bordering on super-human status during Monday’s win over Winnipeg, making a remarkable 44 saves to lead the team to victory. Teddy Purcell also had a solid night with a pair of goals. Remember, if you see a moment you’d like us to capture in a GIF, tweet them to me (@ryanfrankson) or @edmontonoilers, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

Nothing says Oil Country like some good times on the outdoor rink during the holiday season! Thanks to Oilers fan Rob Fossum for this great shot. Get your photos into our spotlight by including @edmontonoilers in your tweets and Instagram posts, or posting them on our Facebook page.
