We’re back for another instalment of the Oilers social media blog, and it’s been another busy week across Oil Country! We had a little fun to embrace the new Star Wars movie, enjoyed a whole pile of #HockeyHolidays
fan submissions, got a shout-out in Sports Illustrated and saw the boys post a six-game winning streak. Enjoy the roundup!
To celebrate the premiere of the highly-anticipated new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, our talented Oilers TV department put together an epic mashup of celebratory videos, replacing sticks with light-sabres. And, most importantly, no spoilers!
With Christmas Day right around the corner, the #HockeyHolidays
photos continue to flow in as you incorporate your team into the festive season. Over the weekend, we’ll be picking our favourite submissions to win an Oilers holiday prize pack, so consider this your last call to send us yours! Post your photos on Twitter and/or Instagram with the hashtag, or upload them on our Facebook page
Remember, you can also spread #HockeyHolidays
cheer and support the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation
by sending an e-card in exchange for a $1 donation!
Our social media efforts got some high-profile love this week in a Sports Illustrated
article titled, “NHL teams rewarding fans for social media content, interaction”. The piece was all about how NHL teams are engaging with fans to enhance the overall game experience and using fan content to drive the brand. We’re proud to be recognized as one of those teams!
GIF OF THE WEEK
Monday night’s 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins ended in dramatic fashion as Andrej Sekera scored the overtime winner, sending the Oilers bench into full celebration mode. As always, if you see a moment you’d like us to capture in a GIF, tweet them to me (@ryanfrankson
) or @edmontonoilers
, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
OIL COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT
As the temperatures dipped and the snow bombarded Oil Country this week, Carly Roguski was basking in the Mexican sun with her little Oilers fan. Thanks for the great snapshot, Carly! Get your photos into our spotlight by including @edmontonoilers in your tweets and Instagram posts, or posting them on our Facebook page.
