Smyth to be inducted to Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

Former long-standing Oilers forward Ryan Smyth will be inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

He bleeds blue & orange and is a proud Albertan.

And on Monday, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame announced Ryan Smyth would be one of its 12 inductees in 2017.

Taken sixth-overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Oilers, Smyth would go on to play 971 regular season games, plus another 68 playoff matches with Edmonton.

The Banff, AB, native recorded 386 goals, 456 assists and 842 points in 1270 career National Hockey League games.

"Captain Canada" ended his NHL career as a member of the Oilers on April 12, 2014, against the Vancouver Canucks in what was an emotional farewell.

Smyth still remains involved in the game of hockey.
