Edmonton Oilers goaltender Dwayne Roloson and centre Shawn Horcoff have been named to Team Canada’s roster for the upcoming 2009 IIHF World Championship to be held in Switzerland from April 24th to May 10th.
Roloson appeared in 63 games for the Oilers in 2008-09 and was 28-24-9 with a 2.77 GAA, a .915 save percentage and one shutout. He registered a single-season career-high 28 wins on the season and became the oldest goaltender in NHL history to play 60-or-more games when he appeared in his 60th game of the season versus Anaheim on March 31st.
In his fourth season with the Oilers, Roloson played in 36 consecutive games from January 18th to April 7th to establish an Edmonton record for most consecutive starts. He was 15-15-6 with a 2.81 GAA and .916 save percentage during the 36 games.
Roloson has a 78-82-24 record in 193 career games with Edmonton and a 2.80 GAA with six shutouts. Since playing his first NHL game in 1996-97, the Simcoe, Ontario native has played 462 career games and is 167-198-67 with a 2.62 GAA, .910 save percentage and 23 shutouts.
Horcoff completed his eighth NHL season tied for second on the Oilers scoring list with Sheldon Souray, netting 53 points on 17 goals and 36 assists. He was +7 with 39 penalty minutes and was among the team leaders in assists (3rd), goals (4th) and powerplay goals (3rd with 8).
The Oilers assistant captain led the Oilers and finished 17th in the NHL in face-off winning percentage at 53.9%, and led the league in both face-offs won and taken as he was 947 for 1,756. Both figures established new single-season Oilers records.
Both Horcoff and Roloson have previous experience with Team Canada as the pair of Oilers has combined to win three gold medals on the world stage for their country. Horcoff won back-to-back gold medals in 2003 and 2004, while Roloson earned his gold medal in 2007.
Roloson was 4-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .911 save percentage in four games in Moscow in 2007 and Horcoff has scored 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 18 games in his two IIHF World Championship appearances.
Canada faces Belarus in its first game of the 2009 IIHF World Championship on Friday, April 24th at 8:00 a.m. (MDT).
