This is my first blog entry and so I guess I'll just start by talking about this first road trip of the season. After practice in Edmonton on Tuesday we flew out to Anaheim and got there later in the afternoon. Kyle Brodziak is my roommate and we decided to go to the mall to do a bit of shopping. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a shopaholic but I managed to only buy a couple of T-shirts and no shoes. It's pretty rare that I go into a mall and don't come out with a pair of shoes. It's a bad habit of mine.
We went with a few of the European guys and they're all really into Prada and Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana so they dragged us into those stores. But Saks Fifth Avenue is more my style so I bought my stuff there.
Shopping is something you have to consider when going out on the road. If we're just going to Calgary or something then we obviously aren't going to do a ton of shopping, but when you go into a city like Anaheim or New York or Chicago it's something that you've gotta make time for and room in your suitcase for. You definitely have to have a strategy when you're packing otherwise you won't be able to bring everything back.
We ate in the mall and then me and Kyle went back to the hotel and watched the X-Files movie. I never really got into the TV show but the movie was okay. I thought there would be more aliens and action and stuff but there wasn't too much of that.
The next day we headed to the rink, and I wanted to make sure to include this part because it was actually really funny. It was Steve MacIntyre's first game and that kind of excitement is something we could all relate to, with your family calling and stuff. But I guess Steve forgot to shut off his cell phone during our pre-game meeting, and while we were watching video his phone kept ringing in the locker room. It rang like three times and everybody was bugging him about it, including the Coach. It was pretty funny and he was pretty embarrassed.
During the game, the place was pretty full so it was a good atmosphere. Our first game wasn't really the best because as a team we didn't play very well. But in our second game in Anaheim we felt more comfortable and got more confident and felt more chemistry with our lines. It felt great to get the win and we're looking forward to this weekend's two games vs. Calgary.
Yesterday we had the day off so that was really nice. After we flew into Calgary Robert Nilsson and I decided to go see a movie. I don't know if I should admit this but it was a bit of a chick flick. Nights in Rodanthe I think it was called, with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
Don't want to ruin the movie for anyone or ruin my reputation even more, so I'll just end on that note.
