Rexall Sports Corporation names Vice President, Facilities and Operations

(Edmonton, AB) - Edmonton Oilers President and Chief Executive Officer Patrick LaForge announced today the appointment of Tom Cornwall to the position of Vice President, Facilities and Operations. Tom Cornwall joins the organization after a four-year senior position with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the Paralympic 2010 Winter Games. During his tenure in Vancouver he served as Vice President, Venue Management and Event Services and Vice President, Medical Services, Anti Doping and Accreditation.
“I’m very pleased to welcome Tom to our senior management team,” stated Patrick LaForge. “Tom is returning to Edmonton and bringing with him a wealth of venue management and operation experience, including four years in Edmonton with Coliseum Management Inc. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge and familiarity with our city and our facilities at a critical time.”
Tom Cornwall came to Edmonton in August of 1994. He was an executive with Ogden Entertainment Services and began his time in Edmonton as Executive Director, Edmonton Coliseum, and eventually Executive Director, Coliseum Operations for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.
Prior to Edmonton he was in Minneapolis, Minnesota with Ogden Entertainment as Director of Facilities at the Target Center, and at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona as Director of Operations.
With the sale of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club to Edmonton Investors Group in 1998, Tom left Edmonton to join the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the Paralympic 2002 Winter Games as Group General Manager, Ice Venues.
Following the 2002 Olympics he continued in the facility management industry as Executive Director of the Rivercenter and Adler Theater in Davenport, Iowa and later as Executive Director, Three Rivers Campus in Kennewick, Washington before joining VANOC in 2006.
Reporting to Darryl Boessenkool, Vice President Finance and CFO, Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, Tom will have facilities and operations responsibility with Rexall Sports Corporation for the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Oil Kings at Rexall Place as our main liaison with Northlands. He will also hold responsibility for facilities and operations at TELUS Field and for business development at TELUS Field for concerts and events.
Tom and his wife Betsy will be returning to Edmonton where he will assume his new responsibilities on May 15 after his assignment with VANOC concludes.
