Rexall Sports Corp. affiliate to acquire Edmonton Cracker-Cats

Edmonton, February 4, 2009 – The Edmonton Cracker-Cats will be back at Telus Field this summer under new, local ownership.

Katz Baseball Corporation said today it has reached an agreement to acquire the Edmonton Cracker-Cats of the Golden Baseball League (GBL). The acquisition has been approved by the GBL.

“We are very excited to be the new owners of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats,” said Katz Group Chairman Daryl Katz. “Professional baseball is a great game that is affordable for the whole family, and Telus Field is a great summer venue. Along with our plans to develop a major entertainment and sports district in downtown Edmonton, this investment is part of a broader commitment to the City of Edmonton and Northern Alberta. It also reflects the ongoing development of Rexall Sports Corp. into a fully integrated sports and entertainment company.”

“Daryl Katz is a community-minded entrepreneur with an exciting vision for baseball and the City of Edmonton,” said GBL President and CEO Dave Kaval. “On behalf of everyone involved in the Golden League, I am very pleased to welcome him aboard.”

The business operations of the Cracker-Cats will be managed by the Edmonton Oilers executive team. Oilers’ President, Patrick LaForge, said, “We are committed to putting together a first-class product and bringing a new level of excitement to the river valley.

Katz Baseball Corporation is a newly-formed affiliate of Rexall Sports Corp, a member of the Katz Group of companies.
