EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman and alternate captain Darnell Nurse to a two-year contract extension through the 2021-22 season.
Nurse, 25, has appeared in 55 games with the Oilers this season, posting 24 points (4G, 20A), 44 penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating. He ranks second among Oilers defencemen in points (24), time on ice (22:46) and second on the team in hits (129) and blocked shots (101).
The 6'4", 221-pound blueliner has appeared in 334 career NHL games, registering 112 points (28G, 84A), 291 penalty minutes and a -7 plus/minus rating. In 2018-19, Nurse set personal highs and led all Oilers defencemen in points (41), goals (10) and assists (31). He also led the team in total ice-time (1,953), ranking 10th in the NHL.
The Hamilton, Ontario native has appeared in 13 career NHL playoff games with Edmonton, recording two assists and six penalty minutes.
Nurse was selected by Edmonton in the first round, 7th overall at the 2013 NHL Draft.
