EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman William Lagesson on a two-year contract through the 2021-22 season. The deal is a two-way contract in year one and a one-way contract in year two, carrying an average annual value of $725,000.
Lagesson will remain with HC Vita Hasten of Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan until the start of the 2020-21 NHL season. The 24-year-old has recorded eight points (three goals, five assists), six penalty minutes and a plus-six rating in 10 games with with HC Vita Hasten so far this season.
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound blueliner appeared in 25 games with the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors in 2019-20, posting 10 points (three goals, seven assists), 18 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating. Lagesson also played in eight games with the Oilers last season, including his NHL debut on Dec. 31, 2019, against the New York Rangers.
The Gothenburg, Sweden native has appeared in 92 career AHL games, registering 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists), 63 penalty minutes and a plus-27 rating. He was selected by Edmonton in the fourth round, 91st overall, at the 2014 NHL Draft.
Lagesson has represented Sweden internationally several times, including two appearances (2015 and 2015) at the IIHF World Junior Championship, the 2014 IIHF World U-18 Championship and 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
