EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Alex Chiasson and defenceman Jason Garrison to one-year NHL contracts.
Chiasson, 28, played for the Washington Capitals in 2017-18, posting 18 points (9G, 9A), 26 penalty minutes and a +1 plus-minus rating in 61 regular season games. The 6'3", 204-pound forward also appeared in 16 playoff games, posting two points (1G, 1A), four penalty minutes and an even plus-minus rating, helping the Capitals to the franchise's first Stanley Cup. The native of Montreal, QC has appeared in 381 NHL regular season games over six seasons with Dallas, Ottawa, Calgary and Washington.
Garrison, 33, appeared in eight games for the Vegas Golden Knights last season, posting one assist, four penalty minutes and a -2 plus-minus rating. The 6'1", 220-pound defenceman spent the balance of the 2017-18 season with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, where he posted 28 points (8G, 20A), 26 penalty minutes and a +8 plus-minus rating. The native of White Rock, BC, has appeared in 538 NHL regular season games over ten seasons with Florida, Vancouver, Tampa Bay and Vegas.
The Oilers also assigned defenceman Ethan Bear to Bakersfield (AHL) and placed defenceman Kris Russell on Injured Reserve.
