EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have announced the creation of Colby's Kids presented by Ford of Canada, built off the success of the Oilers 2nd Shift program introduced in 2019.
The Colby's Kids program honours the memory and legacy of Oilers forward Colby Cave and will provide an opportunity for all youth to participate in the game of hockey. Ford of Canada is proud to support this program in partnership with the Oilers and the Colby Cave Memorial Fund.
Oilers Alumni Fernando Pisani, Jason Chimera and Kyle Brodziak will be leading the program and teaching the next generation of hockey players, with the support of Hockey Edmonton instructors.
Colby's Kids will be easily accessible and affordable, and designed to help bridge the gap between learn-to-play programs, such as the Oilers First Shift, a partnership between the club and the NHL and NHLPA, and minor hockey. It will provide kids and parents with more exposure to the sport through easy-to-access skill development and learning sessions to encourage continued participation in the sport.
"It is an incredible honour to have established Colby's Kids with the Oilers," said Emily Cave. "The rebrand of the 2nd Shift program means more than words could ever describe. The hockey community is a special family and being able to provide underrepresented children and their families the opportunity to be apart of it is incredibly special. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has supported me and donated to Colb's memorial fund."
"Ford of Canada is proud to support the Colby's Kids program, which provides a great opportunity and easy access for more kids and families to enjoy the great game of hockey," the automobile manufacturer said in a statement.
Colby's Kids will be open to all children between the ages of six and 10 years old who have never previously been enrolled in minor hockey in Canada. The registration fee is $150 per participant, which includes:
- Six one-hour on-ice sessions
- Edmonton Oilers Colby's Kids jersey

- $100 voucher towards minor hockey registration for the 2021-22 or 2022-23 season

The Cave Family and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation created the Colby Cave Memorial Fund to carry on the memory and legacy of Oilers forward Colby Cave, who passed away suddenly and tragically on April 11, 2020.
Proceeds from the fund will go toward Colby's Kids, which includes the on-ice program, as well as community initiatives with an emphasis on mental health initiatives via CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health.
