RELEASE: Oilers assign Yamamoto, recall Malone

The Edmonton Oilers have assigned Kailer Yamamoto to the Spokane Chiefs and recalled Brad Malone

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have assigned forward Kailer Yamamoto to the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Spokane Chiefs.

Yamamoto, 19, appeared in nine games with the Oilers, posting three assists, two penalty minutes and 21 shots. Yamamoto recorded his first NHL point on October 14 versus the Ottawa Senators and registered a game high (22:20) in ice time on October 17 versus the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 5'8", 154-pound forward appeared in 65 games with the Chiefs in 2016-17, leading the team in goals and assists, notching 99 points (42G, 57A), 46 penalty minutes and a plus 14 rating. He was also named to the 2016-17 WHL Western Conference Second All-Star Team.

A native of Spokane, Washington, Yamamoto has accumulated 227 points (84G, 183A), 130 penalty minutes and a plus 46 rating in 190 career WHL games. Yamamoto has also played in 12 career playoff games, posting 10 points (3G, 7A) and 16 penalty minutes.

Yamamoto was selected by the Oilers in the 1st round, 22nd overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. 

The Oilers have also recalled Brad Malone from the American Hockey League's (AHL) Bakersfield Condors. 

Malone, 28, has posted three points (2G, 1A) and nine penalty minutes in eight games with Bakersfield this season. He has also played in three games with the Oilers this season.

The 6'1", 210-pound forward has appeared in 179 career NHL games, recording 30 points (13G, 17A) and 190 penalty minutes.
