EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward James Neal from the Calgary Flames in exchange for forward Milan Lucic and a conditional third-round pick at the 2020 NHL Draft.
Neal, 31, has just completed his first season with Calgary, posting 19 points (7G, 12A), 28 penalty minutes and a -5 plus-minus rating. The native of Whitby, ON has appeared in 766 games over 11 NHL seasons, posting 514 points (270G, 244A), 558 penalty minutes and a +30 plus-minus rating. Neal has played with Dallas, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Vegas and Calgary.
The 6'3", 212-pound forward has scored 20 or more goals in ten of his 11 seasons, including a 40 goal season (2011-12) and a 31 goal season (2015-16). Neal has played in two NHL All-Star Games (2016, 2018) and was named to the NHL First All-Star Team once (2012).
Neal has played internationally for Canada on four occasions, capturing gold at the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship and silver medals at the 2009 World Hockey Championship and the 2005 World U18 Hockey Championship. He also played for Canada at the 2011 World Hockey Championship.
