EOCF wildfire donation

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) has donated $1 million to the Canadian Red Cross to help support Albertans affected by wildfires. The Government of Canada and Government of Alberta will both match the EOCF's donation, making a grand total of $3 million in support of Canadian Red Cross humanitarian efforts in the province.

"We would like to thank people across Oil Country for their unwavering generosity and support through this devastating time for affected Albertan families, as we would not have been able to make this donation without you," said Myrna Khan, Executive Director, Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation.

"We are proud to announce that with the provincial and federal government matching our donation, the Canadian Red Cross will receive $3 million, which will help provide further support to those affected by wildfires. On behalf of the EOCF, I would like to thank the Red Cross and all organizations dedicated to helping Albertans and providing continuous support for families in need."

The Canadian Red Cross continues to provide immediate and ongoing support for individuals affected by wildfires, in addition to their continuous efforts of support across Alberta and Canada.

"The Canadian Red Cross is grateful for the support of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and Oilers fans," said Pat Quealey, Vice President of Alberta and Northwest Territories at the Canadian Red Cross. "The Immediate Support to Not-for-Profit Organizations program is one example of how the Red Cross is assisting front-line local and neighbouring community service organizations that are supporting people impacted by the wildfires. Eligible community organizations will receive one-time $5,000 funding that will help support impacted communities and residents."

The Canadian Red Cross is still collecting donations, with the Government of Canada and Government of Alberta matching every dollar that is donated until June 3. Donations can be made HERE.
