A record crowd of over 15,000 fans braved cold temperatures to take in Edmonton Oilers Superskills, presented by McDonalds at Rexall Place today. Inside, the fans were entertained by a relaxed and playful Oilers team as they competed in their annual skills competition alongside the Vermillion Rotary Pee Wee Tigers. In the end, Team White defeated Team Blue 17-7.
Some highlights from the afternoon:
Marc-Andre Bergeron blazes around the perimeter of Rexall Places ice surface in 14.392 seconds to win the Fastest Skater competition. Moments later, Bergeron would out muscle his teammates to win the Hardest Shot competition with a blazing 103.5 mph rocket into the twine.
Petr Sykora surgically picked apart the 4 bullseye targets with 5 shots to win the Accuracy competition, but then joked that he "would have done it in 4 if the lead pass from Ladislav Smid
had been better".
To the delight of the boisterous hometown crowd, Joffrey Lupul demonstrates his goal-scoring prowess to be crowned King of the Shoot-Out.
Proceeds from Edmonton Oilers Superskills, presented by McDonalds, will benefit Ronald McDonald Childrens Charities, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund, and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation.
