PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers pre-season schedule continues Thursday after the club won back-to-back games on Monday and Tuesday.
Edmonton downed the Flames 7-4 in Calgary on Monday, with a lineup consisting of mostly rookies and American Hockey League skaters. The squad got quality outings from Kailer Yamamoto, Tyler Benson and Ryan McLeod, who combined for seven points on the night, as well as Evan Bouchard and Ethan Bear.
On Tuesday against the Canucks - in a game with more veterans on both sides - Ty Rattie's two goals helped propel the Orange & Blue to a 4-2 victory, giving the Oilers a 2-0-0 record in the exhibition season.
As Main Camp rosters continue to get trimmed, it's expected the Oilers will have more veterans suit up Thursday against the Jets.
TOP LINE TIME
One of those vets is none other than Connor McDavid, who is eager to get into game action alongside Rattie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the Oilers first line. The three finished the 2017-18 season together and will hope to continue orchestrating the on-ice production they manufactured previously.

Of course, lots of the attention in Thursday's media availability was on Rattie slotting in on the first unit, which McDavid was asked about. The Oilers Captain has liked what he's seen in Camp from his right winger but thought his performance on Tuesday was exceptional.
"I think he's skating really well," McDavid said. "I especially noticed it the other night when he was playing. I thought he was moving well and bearing down on his chances, which is really good. I like what I've seen."
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has known Rattie for a long time, playing against one another in tournaments during their youth hockey and then lining up with him in '17-18. The left winger noted his belief in Rattie's ability to grasp the chance he has in front of him.
"I've actually got to play with and against him for a long time now," No. 93 said. "I do know what kind of player he is. When he gets an opportunity, he takes advantage of it. He's a talented player and deserves to be here."
Like McDavid, the Burnaby, BC, native was also impressed by Rattie's performance versus Vancouver.
"It was nice to see him get a couple there," he said. "A couple hard-working, hard-earned goals out there, too. Offensively, he always knows the spots to be in. He can find us in the right spots and we can find him. It's a good give and take."
THE DOCTOR IS IN
The doc is in.
After locking up a two-year pact with the Oilers on Monday, defenceman Darnell Nurse is expected to man the blueline at home on Thursday.
It will be the Hamilton, ON, native's first appearance of the pre-season. The defender said he watched his squad's last outing and thought the intensity was apparent.

"I've been ready to go since I got back," Nurse, who had 26 points last campaign, said. "We want to be able to maintain that intensity here as we come out tonight for some of us playing our first game."
Nurse noted the internal competition of Oilers Main Camp has caused the level of play to elevate. Players like Caleb Jones and Kevin Gravel have shown well in their respective outings, while forwards McLeod and Benson have done the same among the forward groups.
"Any time you have internal competition, it forces everyone to play at the top of their game - Or at least give their best effort each and every night," Nurse said.
"For each and every one of us, no matter what position you're in, it definitely boosts you up and you know when guys are working that hard, you want to be at that same level."
NO REST FOR THE ROOKIE
Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan confirmed McLeod will play on Thursday, getting in his third consecutive pre-season game.
The 2018 second-round selection won't be playing middleman with Yamamoto and Benson, though. McLeod is slated to centre Jesse Puljujarvi and Jujhar Khaira.
"He's going to get some veteran-type players with him," started McLellan. "He'll get tested. Their back end will be quite strong tonight and they'll have some veterans in the lineup."

McLeod notched two helpers - including one from a perfect outlet pass to Yamamoto from his own goal-line - on Monday. The pivot was held off the scoresheet in Tuesday's match but that didn't dissuade McLellan from praising the soon-to-be 19-year-old.
"He's shown very well," McLellan said. "Tremendous instincts offensively and through the neutral zone. As with all young players, they have to polish off some things up in the defensive zone. He'll have to work on that part."
