PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers continue pre-season action in Vancouver tonight after defeating the Flames 7-4 in Calgary on Monday.
Kailer Yamamoto looks to continue his strong start tonight after registering two goals and an assist in the victory, with five other Oilers including Tyler Benson, Ryan McLeod, and Alex Chiasson adding two points.
Forwards Drake Caggiula (illness) and Ostap Safin (hip flexor) get their first taste of competitive action at Oilers Main Camp, along with Cooper Marody drawing into the lineup for his Oilers pre-season debut.
"I got a couple practice days under my belt and all the fitness testing done, so I just really missed two of those scrimmages which I would've liked for some game-like situations," Caggiula, who registered 20 points (13 G, 7 A) for the Oilers last season, said. "But that wasn't the circumstance and I kind of just have to deal with it. It's pre-season and you're going to have learning curves along the way anyways, so I'm excited to get some game action after a long summer."

Marody noted there were plenty of takeaways from the Oilers win yesterday evening that can be highlighted as signs of early progress by the squad, heaping praise on other standouts from last week's Rookie Camp in the process.
"There was a lot of good things, especially the Yamamoto, Benson and McLeod line, who've worked hard all camp," Marody added. "They're great guys off the ice too so it's great to see the puck go in for them. I think it was good all around.
"We watched some clips. It was a great penalty kill for the most part and a good power play too, so it's great to see."
The visit to Rogers Arena comes as the second of back-to-back games for the Oilers to open the pre-season, a first opportunity for goaltender Cam Talbot in between the pipes and a first look at forward Kyle Brodziak back in an Oilers uniform. Defenceman Caleb Jones will pair up with Kris Russell after a standout Rookie Camp, and Jason Garrison returns to Vancouver for his first game on a PTO with the Oilers after two seasons with the Canucks from 2012-14.
LINE TRIALS
Tuesday's matchup with Vancouver spells an early opportunity at chemistry for two offensive units that could see a lot of each other this 2018-19 NHL season.
Centre Ryan Strome will operate between wingers Jujhar Khaira and Jesse Puljujarvi, with a first look at a potential fourth-line combination of Caggiula, Brodziak and Zack Kassian.
Brodziak, who signed with the Oilers on July 1 as a free agent, welcomes the opportunity for he and his new linemates to showcase their potential against proper competition after multiple days of practices and scrimmages.
"We've only had a couple of scrimmages, which are sort of close to a game," Brodziak said. "But tonight will be the first chance to play a full game together and I think we're pretty excited about it. All of us as a line are excited go get that opportunity and we want to show well. I think we can be a good line and we want to prove it tonight."

The trio play a hard-nosed game that could provide the line with a tenacity that could benefit them in the long run, says Caggiula.
"The three of us have a similar mindset in the way we play," he said. "We want go get in on forechecks, be hard to play against in both ends of the rink and play with that up-beat tempo. I think the three of us will work well together and hopefully that shows tonight."
MCLELLAN REWARDS POSITIVE PLAY
Do your job and be rewarded for it, preaches Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan.
After combining for six points against the Flames on Monday, the rookie line of Benson, McLeod and Yamamoto have earned another opportunity to impress against the Canucks.
From the start of camp, McLellan has left spots open in the lineup to account for positive early pre-season performances.

"For the first two games we built ghost rosters if you will, completing the Calgary roster right away and leaving spots open for players that performed well and deserved a secondary opportunity." That [Benson, McLeod, Yamamoto] group as three has been quite good and they deserve another night."
More pre-season reps earns players like McLeod an opportunity to utilize their early motivation in adapting to a faster, much more skilled NHL game.
"He's doing some really good things offensively, but like most players he has some things to learn defensively," McLellan said of the Mississauga Steelheads centre. "But he's astute, his eyes and ears are wide open, he's asking questions. "To me there's no fear in his game right now and he's not afraid to be here, and that's why he's showing well."
PATIENCE PREVAILS FOR SAFIN
Two weeks on the sidelines during Oilers Rookie Camp can feel like an eternity.
But right-winger Safin used a lack of time on the ice due to a hip flexor issue as a positive this Main Camp as he prepares to make his pre-season debut.
"Right now, I feel really great because I got two weeks off with no practice or nothing," said the 6-foot-5 Czech forward. "It's hard when you're not practicing for two weeks and nothing can help it. The doctors and trainers helped me a lot so I'm very grateful and ready to go."
The Saint John Sea Dogs forward registered 58 points (26 G, 32A) in 61 games and is slated to start against the Canucks tonight on a line with Marody and Ty Rattie, who will bring a smaller but albeit veteran presence to the offensive unit.
"I don't know how [Rattie] plays or what type of player he is, but I'm really excited to play with him and Cooper so we'll see what happens," Safin said. "Cooper is a really great player and great playmaker, so I think it'll be good to play with him.
