PRE-GAME REPORT

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Oilers wrap up their five-game road trip looking to end it on a high note in a historical game.
It's the first time that the Oilers have ever played an NHL game in Vegas and only the second all-time meeting between the two divisional foes. Vegas is 11-1-0 this season against the Pacific Division with the lone loss being at Rogers Place in Edmonton by a score of 8-2.
"I don't think it'll be the same game at all," said Oilers captain Connor McDavid when asked about comparisons between their opponent tonight and that Vegas squad which lost in a big way back in November. "I know they're the same team at home. They obviously have their star goaltender back in net. I would expect a much different game tonight."
Oscar Klefbom added that he expects the Golden Knights to be motivated after such a big loss back in Edmonton.
"They're going to come after us. They want to take that back for sure," he began. "Nobody wants to lose 8-2, that's almost embarassing. They're going to be ready and so are we because we have to go get them early."
BYE WEEK EXCHANGE
The Oilers are heading into their bye week after tonight's game while the Golden Knights are coming off of theirs.
"It's tough," said Klefbom of coming off a break, as the Arizona Coyotes did last night. "Obviously you're well rested and all that but all the timing is pretty tough, too. We've got to go after them early here."
Vegas has been outstanding at home with a record of 18-2-1 in addition to an active seven-game winning streak.
"It's going to be a big challenge for us to finish off (the road trip) here in Vegas. They've been playing some really good hockey here," Klefbom continued.
"This is a good opportunity for us to come together as a group and finish off strong before the game."
OILERS FAN INVASION
There were thousands of Oilers fans at the Coyotes game on Friday night and all indications are that there will be even more tonight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The word of that has gotten back to the players.
"We've heard that there's a lot of people coming down. It'll be similar to last night and maybe a little more so that should be fun," said Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
McDavid echoed the thoughts of RNH.
"They were great last night in Arizona and I heard there was supposed to be more here tonight. It's great to see fans travel around to watch us play."
BEATING THE KNIGHTS
Vegas is 14-1-1 in their last 16 games as they've soared to the top of the Western Conference - virtually unheard of for an NHL expansion team. The Oilers have a tough task ahead of them if they hope to head into the bye week on a two-game win streak and the players are well aware of that fact.
"A 60-minute game is going to be huge for us," said Nugent-Hopkins. "They don't stop. They have four lines and they come and keep going and going. When we played them (in November) they had a bit of an off night and we had a good night so we obviously can't expect it to be like that."
"It's always good to see," Pat Maroon told Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels. "They come out of their shell. The coaches, the GM, they believed in them. At one point in their career (someone said) that guy's going to be a good hockey player in this League. It's pretty cool to see. The cool thing about that team, they're tenacious, they're hungry, they're fast. They don't give up on pucks. Their work ethic is there every night and a little puck luck here and there. A big save at a key time goes a long way."
Maroon added that he thinks that the Oilers should be held in as high regard as the Golden Knights, if not higher, despite each team's relative position in the standings at the moment.
"We match up well against them. When our team's playing the way we're capable of playing, we're a really good hockey team. We're not the same Edmonton Oilers the last few years, we're the team that we were last year. We've just got to believe here and have the coaches believe in us and keep telling us that we're a good hockey team.
"We're not that far out of it. We're a couple points away from being right back in the mix."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONNOR
Today is Connor McDavid's 21st birthday. He is also two points away from 200 in his career and only two active players have scored that many points on their 21st birthday or earlier: Steve Stamkos (20 years, 341 days) and Sidney Crosby (19, 207).
Despite a January birthday, it's not often for McDavid that he plays on it.
"I can't remember the last time I played on my birthday. A birthday game is something new to me. It doesn't really mean anything but it's a little bit different," he said.
