(Edmonton, AB) – The puck will drop at Rexall Place on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 7pm as the Oilers begin the 2011-12 NHL season. The festivities will kick off at 5:30pm when the popular local band Ten Second Epic takes to the outdoor stage on the south side of Rexall Place near the LRT station. After Ten Second Epic performs, Oilers fans will be introduced to the 2011-12 edition of the Oilers Octane.

“I cannot recall an Oilers season ever having more pent up anticipation than this year’s,” said Oilers President and COO Patrick LaForge. “With so much to prove and so much to gain, your Edmonton Oilers are eager to welcome you and all of the hockey world back to Rexall Place for more action-packed entertainment.”

A Tailgate BBQ will be held outside of Rexall Place near the stage on the south side of the building from 4:30pm – 6:45pm.

Fans are invited to come early to rally together before the team takes on the Eastern Conference Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Oilers Octane will take to centre ice during the first intermission to perform for fans and reveal this year’s new uniform. The squad has expanded to welcome 26 members this season and will perform at every Oilers home game and support events throughout Oil Country.
