General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today that the Oilers have re-signed defenceman Ladislav Smid to a four-year, $14M ($3.5M AAV) contract extension. The 27-year-old was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Jul. 1.
In 34 games this season, Smid has registered one goal, three points and a -2 rating. He leads the team in blocked shots with 91, which ranks him fourth in the entire National Hockey League, three back of Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik for the League lead. Smid also leads the Oilers in hits this season with 103.
In 443 career games, the Frydlant, Czech Republic product has scored 10 goals and 62 points.
