Oilers Score for Prostate Cancer Research

by Staff Writer / Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation are pleased to partner with the Alberta Cancer Foundation in support of Oilers Score for Prostate Cancer Research at the Cross Cancer Institute.

This exciting and innovative fundraiser allows anyone to get involved by donating a dollar amount of your choice for every goal scored by the Oilers during the 2008-2009 regular season.

Last season the Oilers scored 235 regular season goals and are looking to build on that total this year.

“This is a terrific program which has the opportunity to have the entire community involved,” stated Edmonton Oilers President and CEO Patrick LaForge. “We are very proud of the programs we undertake and support in our community. People have always given generously to a variety of projects we’ve undertaken and this partnership with the Oilers, the Cross Cancer Institute and the Alberta Cancer Foundation will no doubt strike a special note and also be very successful”.

Former Oiler, Glenn Anderson, is the honorary chair for this program continuing a relationship with the Cross Cancer Institute that began 20 years ago when he played for the copper and blue. Oilers Score was spearheaded by Oilers Alternate Governor, Cal Nichols, and Bob Bentley, past Chair of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Brian Shea, Chief Development Officer at the Alberta Cancer Foundation said, “We are pleased and honoured that the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation has stepped forward to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer – the mostly commonly diagnosed cancer today. One in seven men, and more than 2,400 Albertans, will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. It is the reality of this statistic that brings us all together in the fight to conquer prostate cancer.”
