The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club unveiled today an extensive support initiative to aid Prostate Cancer Research at the Cross Cancer Institute.
“OILERS SCORE FOR PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH AT THE CROSS CANCER INSTITUTE”
Effective immediately fans and corporate supporters can pledge support to the Oilers Score For Prostate Research at the Cross Cancer Institute, by going to the Oilers website, www.edmontonoilers.com and pledging an amount for every goal the Oilers score during the Edmonton Oilers 2008-09 REGULAR SEASON.
“This is a terrific program which has the opportunity to have the entire community involved,” stated Edmonton Oilers President and CEO Patrick LaForge. “We are very proud of the programs we undertake and support in our community. People have always given generously to a variety of projects we’ve undertaken and this partnership with the Oilers, the Cross Cancer Institute and the Alberta Cancer Foundation will no doubt strike a special note and also be very successful”.
The Edmonton Oilers scored 235 regular season goals last year. Today, and throughout the Oilers 2008-09 regular season, fans can make these goals count for even more by going to the Oilers website, clicking on the Oilers Score logo and complete the simple pledge process.
“There is a long history between the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Cross Cancer Institute and our players, particularly Glenn Anderson.” said Cal Nichols, who along with past Alberta Cancer Foundation Chairman Bob Bentley spearheaded the “Oilers Score” program. “This program is not only a high profile method for creating a significant contribution to aid in prostate cancer research, but it resonates throughout our community because it’s easy for individuals and corporate partners to get involved. When Glenn came back to Edmonton today to be a part of the 20th Anniversary of our Cross Cancer Golf Classic, it seemed like the perfect time to launch this program and really make a significant contribution to helping with Prostate Cancer research.”
Brian Shea, Chief Development Officer at the Alberta Cancer Foundation said, “We are pleased and honoured that the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation has stepped forward to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer – the mostly commonly diagnosed cancer today. One in seven men, and more than 2,400 Albertans, will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. It is the reality of this statistic that brings ua all together in the fight to conquer prostate cancer.”
