The Edmonton Oilers have placed defenceman Ladislav Smid
on the NHL Injured Reserve List after he suffered a sprained left shoulder in the first period of the Oilers 6-5 shootout loss versus the Dallas Stars on January 4th.
With the injury to Smid, the Oilers have recalled defenceman Mathieu Roy from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
In his first NHL season, Smid has scored three assists and accumulated 12 PIM in 39 games with Edmonton.
This will be Roys second call-up to the Oilers this season. The 62", 214-pound blueliner was a healthy scratch in five games between December 14th and 23rd after being recalled from Hamilton on December 13th.
In 31 games with Hamilton this season, Roy has scored 6-12-18 with 40 PIM and is +17. He was leading the Bulldogs in plus/minus at the time of his recall and ranked eighth in team scoring.
