Oilers recall Jacques; Moreau placed on IR

Edmonton Oilers assistant captain Ethan Moreau has been placed on the NHL Injured Reserve list after suffering an ankle sprain in an off-ice conditioning session.

With the injury to Moreau, the Oilers have recalled forward Jean-Francois Jacques from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Moreau suffered a sprained right ankle while playing basketball on Monday, January 30th and is out of the lineup indefinitely.

Appearing in all 52 of the Oilers games this season, Moreau has scored 9-15-24 with 65 penalty minutes and is +8. He is tied with Torontos Matt Stajan for the NHL lead in shorthanded scoring with 4-3-7 and is one of five players tied for the league lead with four shorthanded goals.

Jacques, the Oilers third choice (second round, 68th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft is third on the Bulldogs scoring list and leads Hamilton in goals with 14-13-27 in 42 games. The left winger has scored a team-leading nine powerplay goals and ranks second on the Bulldogs with 83 penalty minutes.

  • The 64", 217 pound native of Terrebonne, Quebec made his professional debut with the Edmonton Road Runners in 2004-05 playing six regular season games after completing his junior career with Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL.

    The Oilers return home today following a three-game road trip that saw them compile a 3-0-0 record. Edmonton opens a three-game homestand on Thursday, February 2nd against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
