Oilers promote Rick Olczyk

The Edmonton Oilers have announced the appointment of Rick Olczyk to the position of Assistant General Manager & Director of Hockey Operations/Legal Affairs.

The 38-year-old native of Chicago, Illinois moves into the new position after serving as the Oilers’ Director of Hockey Administration and Legal Affairs during the 2007-08 season.

As a member of the Oilers Hockey Management Team, Olczyk will work closely with Kevin Lowe, Steve Tambellini and Kevin Prendergast on various hockey operations duties, including player contracts, negotiations and NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement issues.

The younger brother of former NHL forward Ed Olczyk, joined the Oilers on June 22, 2007 from the private sector, where he ran his own legal consulting firm in Chicago for six seasons.

A 1996 graduate of Cornell Law School, Olczyk was admitted to the Arizona Bar in 1996 and worked two years with a law firm in Phoenix. He also spent two seasons with the NHLPA before opening his own legal consulting firm.
