Oilers make Monday transactions

by Staff Writer / Edmonton Oilers

For the second time this month, Edmonton Oilers right winger Radek Dvorak has been placed on the NHL Injured Reserve List with a groin injury.

Dvorak, who originally suffered the injury during an Oilers practice on Monday, December 5th, missed the first two games of Edmontons three-game eastern road trip at Philadelphia (December 8) and the New York Islanders (December 10) before returning to the lineup at New Jersey (December 13).

During the game with the Devils, Dvorak aggravated the injury and has missed the last two games versus Montreal (December 15) and at Vancouver (December 17).

To replace Dvoraks spot on the roster, the Oilers have recalled defenceman Matt Greene from the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League.

Greene, the Oilers fourth choice (second round), 44th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, has scored two goals and five assists in 26 games with Iowa and is +5 with 47 penalty minutes. Both of his goals have come on special teams as he has netted one powerplay and one shorthanded goal.

This is the second time this season that Greene has been recalled to the Oilers as he was first recalled on December 7th when Dvorak was first placed on the NHL IRL. Greene did not see any game action during his first recall and was a healthy scratch for two games before being returned to Iowa on December 13th.
