This summer the Edmonton Oilers will once again be offering the Oilers Hockey School presented by EnCana to young hockey players aged five to 16 from July 26th to August 15th. Although improving the player hockey skills are a top priority, it’s also a camp focused on giving kids overall life experience through the game of hockey.
The Oilers have partnered with the Okanagan Hockey School, the longest running and biggest hockey school in Canada, to offer this top-notch program. Through their combined expertise, Hockey School participants get a fun and impactful one week training program.
Oilers Hockey School is led by qualified instructors including Oilers and Oil Kings alumni; it’s also common to see a few Oilers players pop by each week. The focus at Hockey School is individual instruction to help the players identify their specific strengths and areas of opportunity. Unlike some camps who have one coach for every ten players, the Oilers Hockey School has one for every five players.
“We believe individual instruction is important to the development of hockey players,” said Dixon Ward, Vice President of the Okanagan Hockey School. “Our programs focus on the overall experience and growing the participants not only as hockey players but as people.”
The Oilers Hockey School is a full week’s training which includes both on and off-ice drills. Specific streams are available with a focus on goaltending, recreational and elite hockey. Players will learn the newest training techniques, complete core strength exercises and attend seminars ranging from motivation to nutrition.
