Hockey fans in Oil Country have another reason to be proud today as Oilers fan and Beaumont, AB resident Colin Oberst was announced as the winner of Hockey Night In Canada’s anthem competition.  Along with the notoriety of composing Canada’s unofficial second national anthem, Oberst wins the grand prize of $100,000 and half the ongoing royalties, with the other half invested in minor hockey.

“We couldn’t be happier for Colin and his significant accomplishment,” stated Oilers President and CEO Patrick LaForge.  “Everyone in Oil Country will be smiling as we tune in to Hockey Night In Canada each week and hear those first notes from the bagpipes.”

Oberst is planning on being in Rexall Place for the Oilers Opening Night Sunday vs. the Colorado Avalanche.
