The Edmonton Oilers kick off the 2010-11 season with a two-game home-stand at Rexall Place. The “Battle of Alberta” heats up immediately when the Calgary Flames travel north to Edmonton to begin the year on Thursday, October 7. The Florida Panthers are next on Sunday, October 10, the only time the two teams will face each other this season. The first road swing will see the Oilers make stops in Minnesota on Thursday, October 14 and Calgary on Saturday, October 16.
Once again, this season’s schedule will see the Oilers play six games (three home and three away) against each of their Northwest Division opponents – the Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild – for a total of 24 games. Edmonton will play four games against each of the remaining teams in the Western Conference, facing their Central and Pacific Division opponents twice at home and twice on the road for a total of 40 games.
Edmonton will play 18 games against Eastern Conference opponents to round out the 82-game schedule. The Oilers will play five games against Atlantic Division teams, eight games against Northeast Division teams, and five versus Southeast Division opponents.
This year’s home schedule will again features two games against each of the Oilers’ three Eastern Canadian rivals: the Toronto Maple Leafs are in Edmonton on Tuesday, December 14, the Ottawa Senators visit Edmonton to kick off Hockey Day in Canada with a noon start time on Saturday, February 12, and the Montreal Canadiens play at Rexall Thursday, February 17.
The Oilers will have two six-game home stands this year. From December 4 to December 16, Edmonton will entertain St. Louis, Anaheim, Tampa Bay, Vancouver, Toronto and Columbus. Then from February 9 to February 19 Chicago, Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Montreal and Atlanta will be here.
Edmonton plays in 11 back-to-back games this season as well as in four afternoon games including two at Rexall Place. On Saturday, February 12, the Oilers will host the Ottawa Senators for a 12:00 p.m. game, and on Saturday, February 19, the Atlanta Thrashers make a stop in the Capital City for a 1:30 p.m. game.
The Oilers will face the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions Chicago Blackhawks for the first time in the Windy City on Friday, October 29. They come to Rexall Place on Wednesday, November 17.
