The Edmonton Oilers wrap up their three game road trip tonight with the first Battle of Alberta match-up of the season.
Edmonton started the season with a pair of wins before losing four in a row but recovered to defeat Phoenix 4-2 on Thursday night.
The Flames, meanwhile, dropped their first three games of the season before a successful road trip that saw the club go 2-1-1. The trip would have been even better if not for the Flames blowing a 4-0 lead in Colorado.
In their last game, Calgary defeated Los Angeles 4-3 for their first home win of the season on Thursday. They have picked up points in each of their last four games (3-0-1).
Just The Facts...
OILERS TO WATCH: Andrew Cogliano is second behind Patrick Kane in NHL rookie scoring with six points and his two goals is tied for tops among rookies. Perhaps more impressive, his +4 rating leads all rookies. His point total is also tops on the Oilers... Kyle Brodziak leads all Oilers with a +5 rating. Tom Gilbert is the only other Oiler with a rating higher than +1 at +3... Dwayne Roloson gets the start tonight. His goals-against average is 2.66 and save percentage is .907 on the season.
FLAMES TO WATCH: Daymond Langkow is off to a great start this season. He's second in the league in goals scored with seven and tied with teammate Jarome Iginla for ninth in the league with 10 points... Kristian Huselius is sixth in the NHL with five points... Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff has had a rough start to the season, which is becoming an annual October tradition. Through seven games, he has a 3.34 goals-against average and .883 save percentage. Calgary's high scoring ways have enabled him to keep his record above level at 3-2-2 so far.
ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton – Sheldon Souray (shoulder) is out. Ethan Moreau (foot) is out. Mathieu Roy (concussion) is day-to-day; Calgary – The Flames are healthy.
LINEUP UPDATES: This morning's practice was an optional so it's not known which two of Pouliot, Jacques or Stortini will dress for tonight's game.
FAST FACTS: Tonight is Craig MacTavish's 500th game as Oilers head coach... Calgary is second in the Western Conference in goals scored with 25 through seven games this season but they've also struggled defensively and are second worst in the West and fourth-worst in the entire NHL in goals against with 25 allowed... Last game, Calgary broke an obscure NHL record with consecutive two-goal games to start the season. In seven straight games, at least one Flame has recorded at least two goals in a game - breaking the mark set by the 1917 and 1920 Ottawa Senators.
