Oilers assign five

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have assigned forwards Linus Omark, Chris VandeVelde, Ryan O’Marra and Teemu Hartikainen and defenceman Jeff Petry to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.

Omark, 24, has appeared in 51 games with the Oilers recording 27 points (5G, 22A) and 26 penalty minutes. The 5’10”, 174-pound Overtornea, Sweden native has also played in 28 games with the Barons collecting 31 points (14G, 17A) and 32 penalty minutes.
VandeVelde, 24, has appeared in 12 games with Edmonton recording two assists and 12 penalty minutes. The 6’2”, 204-pound Moorhead, MN native played in his first NHL game and collected his first career point this season with the Oilers. In 67 games with the Barons, VandeVelde scored 12 goals and  added four assists as well as 45 penalty minutes.
O’Marra, 23, played in 21 games this season with Edmonton scoring his first NHL goal and adding four assists for five points. The 6’2”, 195-pound centre also had 22 points (2G, 20A) and 49 penalty minutes in 53 games with Oklahoma City this year.
Hartikainen, 20, played in his first NHL game and scored his first career goal when he was recalled to Edmonton last month. He had two goals and two assists in 11 games with the club as well as four penalty minutes.. The 6’1”, 215-pound Kuopio, Finland native also appeared in 66 games with the Barons recording 42 points (17G, 25A) and 27 penalty minutes.
Petry, 23, also played in his first NHL game and recorded his first career goal as the 6’3”, 200-pound Farmington Hills, MI native collected five points (1G, 4A) and 10 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Oilers this season. In 41 games with Oklahoma City, Petry had 24 points (7G, 17A) and 18 penalty minutes.
The five players will join the team in Oklahoma City as the Barons prepare for the first round of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs.
