The Edmonton Oilers open their Farewell Season at Rexall Place with a three game road trip that begins in St Louis on Thursday, October 8th. The Oilers return home to host their final-ever Opening Night at Rexall Place on Thursday, October 15th against those same St. Louis Blues.
The Oilers October home schedule is loaded with marquee match-ups. In addition to Opening Night, the Oilers will host the Detroit Red Wings on the 21st, Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on the 23rd, the Los Angeles Kings on the 25th, Hart Trophy winner Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens on the 29th and the Calgary Flames on Halloween Night, October 31st.
The first week of November will see the Oilers host both the Philadelphia Flyers (November 3rd) and Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins (November 6th). The month of November will also feature the lone visit by the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, as they face off against the Oilers at Rexall Place on Wednesday November 18th.
Edmonton will also play host to several other exciting match-ups to round out the final season at Rexall Place. The Anaheim Ducks will face the Oilers in the final New Year’s Eve game at Rexall Place on December 31st, as well as Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning make their lone trip to Edmonton on Friday, January 8th.
The Oilers will play 29 games against their Pacific Division opponents (Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks). Edmonton will play each divisional opponent five times, with the exception of the San Jose Sharks, who they will face four times. The final installment of the ‘Battle of Alberta’ will take place on April 2nd, as the Calgary Flames make their last visit to Rexall Place.
The Oilers will play three games against each of the remaining teams in the Western Conference, for a total of 21 games. Edmonton also plays in eight back-to-back games this season and three afternoon games.
Rounding out their 82-game schedule, the Oilers will play 32 games against Eastern Conference opponents, which will see the teams play one home and one away game.
This year's home schedule will feature one game against each of the Oilers' three Eastern Canadian rivals: the Montreal Canadiens are in Edmonton Thursday, October 29th, the Toronto Maple Leafs pay a visit to Rexall Place on Thursday, February 11th and the Ottawa Senators are in town on Tuesday, February 23rd.
The Oilers will have two six-game home stands this year, from December 29th to January 10th, with the second home stand coming from February 11th – 23rd. During the course of the Oilers’ two six-game home stands they will face five Eastern Conference opponents, four Pacific Division teams and three Central Division Opponents. The team will also make a five-game eastern road trip from November 23rd – 30th, when they visit the Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Oilers will close out their 2015-16 home schedule with their final-ever regular season game at Rexall Place, on Wednesday, April 6th against their Pacific Division rival, the Vancouver Canucks. This will also mark the start of a home and home series, which will see the Oilers visit Vancouver on April 9th to finish the season.
