The Edmonton Oilers will open the 2013-14 season at home against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, October 1st, marking the first time the Jets play in Edmonton since returning to the NHL.
The Oilers' October schedule will also see them host the New Jersey Devils on Monday, October 7th, and the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, October 10th. The Oilers wrap up the month of October at home with visits from the Washington Capitals (October 24th) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (October 29th).
This is the inaugural season for the NHL's realigned format and it will see every team in the NHL play each other at least twice. The Oilers play 29 games against their newly aligned divisional opponents (Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Phoenix Coyotes). The Oilers will play each divisional opponent five times, with the exception of the Los Angeles Kings, who they will face four times.
The Oilers will play three games against each of the remaining teams in the Western Conference, for a total of 21 games. Edmonton will travel to the MTS Centre for one game against the Jets on Saturday, January 18th and they will host Winnipeg to kick off the season on October 1st as well as December 23rd.
Rounding out their 82-game schedule, the Oilers will play 32 games against Eastern Conference opponents, that will see the teams play one home and one away game.
This year's home schedule will feature one game against each of the Oilers' three Eastern Canadian rivals: the Ottawa Senators are in Edmonton Tuesday, March 4th, the Toronto Maple Leafs pay a visit to Rexall Place on Tuesday, October 29th and the Montreal Canadiens are in town on Thursday, October 10th.
The Oilers will have one six-game home stand this year, from March 18th to March 30th; Edmonton will entertain the Nashville Predators, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers. The team will also make a six-game eastern road trip from October 12th to October 22nd, when they will visit the Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens.
Due to the 2014 Winter Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia, the Oilers will play just five games in the month of February. Four of the games will come on the road against the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. The Oilers will host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, February 27th as their only home game in February.
Edmonton plays in 12 back-to-back games this season as well as five afternoon games, all of which come on the road.
Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, TELUS and Ford.
