Oilers announce 2008-09 TV schedule

The Edmonton Oilers are celebrating their 30th season as a member of the National Hockey League in style as all 82 games of the 2008-09 regular season will be televised. This marks the first time in team history that fans will be able to watch the entire season on television.A total of 49 games will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet West, including two pre-season games for the first time, while another 12 games will be shown on Oilers-Pay-Per View. The Oilers will appear 12 times on CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada and 10 games will be broadcast by TSN. The only regular season game not to be broadcast as part of the Oilers Rogers Sportsnet West package will be the October 17th game at Calgary, but Oilers fans will be able to tune into the game as part of the Flames package with Rogers Sportsnet.

Oilers fans will also be able to see two of the Oilers seven pre-season games on Rogers Sportsnet West. The 2008-09 broadcast schedule opens on September 30th as Rogers Sportsnet West will televise the Oilers pre-season game versus the Calgary Flames from Rexall Place. The second pre-season game to be aired will be the October 3rd rematch between the Oilers and Flames from the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary.

Rogers Sportsnet’s regular season coverage begins with the season opener against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, October 12th and will conclude with Edmonton’s final home game on April 10th versus Calgary.

Fans of Oilers Pay-Per-View will enjoy 12 games of commercial-free hockey this season. The Pay-Per-View package is highlighted by the January 18th game versus the Phoenix Coyotes that will feature the retirement of Glenn Anderson’s #9 in a special pre-game ceremony at Rexall Place. Other games of note on the Oilers Pay-Per-View schedule include the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings visit to Rexall Place on November 20th and the Montreal Canadiens’ only visit to Edmonton on February 11th. Oilers Pay-Per-View is available on Bell Express Vu, Shaw Digital Cable and Star Choice.
