by Edmonton Oilers Press Release / Edmonton Oilers
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the addition of Duane Sutter to the pro scouting staff of the Edmonton Oilers.

Sutter, 51, joins Head Pro Scout, Morey Gare and his staff of Michael Abbamont, Chris Chihocki and Dave Semenko.
Tambellini says “We are absolutely thrilled to be adding someone of Duane’s caliber to our scouting staff.  Duane brings a vast knowledge of the game and will complement our staff very well.”
The Viking, Alberta native was most recently the Director of Player Personnel for the Calgary Flames from 2008-2011, where his responsibilities included managing the Flames pro scouting staff and depth charts, as well as managing all hockey operations for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbottsford Heat.
Before joining the Flames, Sutter was the part of the Florida Panthers coaching staff where he was Head Coach from 2000-2002.  He was also an Assistant Coach from 1996-1998 and 2002-2003 and then served roles in player development/pro scouting from 2003-2008.
Sutter, who is one of six brothers to play in the NHL, appeared in 731 career games recording 342 points (139G, 203A) and 1333 penalty minutes.
Originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1st round (17th overall) of the 1979 Entry Draft, he made his NHL debut with the Islanders the very next season and was a key contributor to the Islanders first Stanley Cup championship. He also contributed to the ensuing 1981, 1982 and 1983 Stanley Cup championships. Sutter rounded out his career in Chicago spending three seasons with the Blackhawks.
Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, ATB Financial, Cenovus Energy and Ford.
