The Edmonton Oilers received some great news today, as the team’s symbolic icon, “The Oil Derrick”, has been certified for action for tonight’s game vs. the Minnesota Wild. The news comes after a malfunction occurred during the Oilers last home game on Monday, October 17th, right before the team was to take on the Nashville Predators at Rexall Place.
For the past 48 hours, representatives of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, Aquila Productions and Northlands, worked together to review the circumstances that lead to the situation on Monday night. A detailed inspection of the derrick, including its cables and motors has been conducted as well as a review of its operating procedures.
Edmonton Oilers President Patrick LaForge says, “It has been a long few days, however we are very pleased with the process that has taken place, including the approval we received from the Occupational Health and Safety Board. Ensuring the safety of everyone inside Rexall Place is, and always will be our main objective.”Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, ATB Financial, Cenovus Energy and Ford.
