"The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) is thrilled to be the beneficiary of the second annual championship, said EOCF Executive Director Natalie Minckler. "We will be redirecting the funds to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital's new Pediatric Procedure Room."
The public is welcome to come down to watch a week of golf, which begins with the Celebrity Pro-Am on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at Windermere Golf and Country Club.
"You can follow along, be part of the gallery, come cheer them on and have a great day," added Minckler. "This event is charitable so the more events you come out to and the more tickets purchased, the more money that will go towards the new Pediatric Procedure Room."
Oilers Alumni Grant Fuhr will be returning this year, not only participating in the Celebrity Pro-Am, but golfing alongside young up-and-comers in the Mackenzie Tour.
"A lot of what I do now is raising money for charity, so to be able to come back and do it at home is a real nice bonus," explained Fuhr. "It's fun to get out with the young guys - I'll probably be the oldest guy out by a bunch, and I'm okay with that - it's going to be a lot of fun!"
The gallery can follow along and watch Oilers current players Cam Talbot, Matt Benning, Mark Letestu and Dillon Simpson, Oilers alumni Craig Simpson, Louie Debrusk and Wayne Gretzky as well as Janet Gretzky, Glenn Sather and boxer Jelena Marjanovic.
"It's awesome to be back home, any time you can come back home and support this event it's fantastic," added Fuhr. "The oilers and the EOCF do a great job with it so it's fun to be able to represent them."T
The week will continue with the pros taking to the tee starting Thursday August 3, and will wrap up on Sunday with the EOCF Walk FORE Kids and the closing ceremonies on the green at the 18th hole.
"Hopefully everybody comes down and joins us- both the celebrity pro-am and regular pro-am are both going to be fun, the tournament's going to be a lot of fun and the kids [golfers] are good players and they're worth seeing."
