Highlighting this year's roster of participating celebrities are Oilers Hall-of-Famer and OEG Vice Chair Wayne Gretzky along with former Oilers Head Coach, President and General Manager, Glen Sather. In conjunction with the announcement, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) launched today its lineup of auction items for the EOCF Locker Room Online Auction, including the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk the course alongside Gretzky or Sather during the Celebrity Pro-Am.
"The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation is incredibly grateful for the support of our hockey fans, and we know that Oilers fans everywhere will be excited at the prospect of spending the day with Wayne Gretzky and Glen Sather," said EOCF Executive Director Natalie Minckler. "This is a remarkable opportunity to get to know your hockey idols while supporting both our Foundation and the Syncrude Oil Country Championship presented by AECON. The funds we raise will directly benefit our community so our hope is that people embrace the EOCF Locker Room Online Auction by bidding often."
In addition to both opportunities for the chance to spend quality time with Gretzky and Sather, the Celebrity Pro-Am will boast a star-studded celebrity lineup featuring Oilers players, Oilers Alumni and other notable guests. The Mackenzie Tour pros playing alongside the aforementioned local celebrities will be announced in the coming weeks, but the prestigious Windermere Golf and Country Club will be an exciting spot for all the action on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
Following the Celebrity Pro-Am, eight celebrities will be participating in the tournament's Celebrity Horse Race - an exciting golf competition which will have eight teams competing in a fun, crowd-pleasing alternate shot, elimination format that will provide loads of entertainment for all sport fans. Each team will consist of a celebrity and a Mackenzie Tour professional.
Both the Celebrity Pro-Am and Celebrity Horse Race, like the entire Syncrude Oil Country Championship presented by AECON, will be in support of the EOCF, who will direct net proceeds to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation in support of its Pediatric Procedure Room. The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation promotes rehabilitation and provides financial support for the enhancement of patient care, education, research, equipment and technology development at the Glenrose.
Beyond the Celebrity Pro-Am, the official Oil Country Championship tournament days will run from Thursday, August 3 to Sunday, August 6. Daily tickets can be purchased for $20 or a weekly pass will be available for $75. Children 14 and under will receive complimentary admission.
