PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers Rookies prepare for their second and final matchup with the Calgary Flames Rookies tonight, meeting their division rivals on neutral ground in Red Deer at the ENMAX Centrium to close Rookie Camp.
The rookies put nine past the NAIT/MacEwan All-Stars on 68 shots Tuesday night in a 9-1 domination at Rogers Place, with defenceman Caleb Jones' two goals and two assists and three-point nights from Tyler Benson and Ryan McLeod leading the way for the Oilers.
Revenge is weighing heavily on the rookies' minds after being handed a 7-3 loss by the Flames four days earlier in Calgary.

"After the game, we had against Calgary to start, it was a good bounce back for us," left-winger Nolan Vesey said of Tuesday's victory. "We played well and can carry that momentum into tonight and hopefully keep that going.
"It's obviously a historic rivalry and we owe these guys. They kind of embarrassed us the first game and we want to get a win to end Rookie Camp here. It's one of the most historic rivalries in hockey, so when you put this Oilers jersey on it means something - especially against Calgary."
FOOT ON THE PEDAL
After building a confortable lead over NAIT/MacEwan midway through Tuesday's contest, Bakersfield Condors Head Coach Jay Woodcroft knew his team couldn't coast to victory.
In a camp where the players and coaches have made strides to get better every day, there was no better time for the coaching staff to preach game management.
"There was a point in the second period where the scor started to get away in the game," Woodcroft said. "Our coaches on the bench during the intermission talked about that exact thing - maintaining good habits and letting the fellas know that the evaluation side of things isn't about who scores and who gets assists, but a big part of it is doing it right and playing the game the way we want to play."

PRE-GAME RAW | Cooper Marody 09.12.18

Players like centre Cooper Marody knew keeping the intensity high and game plan consistent would pay off in the long run before a rematch with a much more skilled, determined Flames Rookie side.
"You pretend like it's a 0-0 game against a top NHL team and that's what we tried to do," the Brighton, MI product said. "It's tough to keep that for the full 60 minutes for a lot of people, but I think we did a good job at keeping our foot on the gas and not letting it get away from us.
"It's good for us but we know there's a good team in Calgary coming our way today and it's not going to be that easy. We did a good job at not building bad habits and sticking to the right way to play, and it worked out for us."
REDEMPTION
This Rookie Camp has given many players their first exposure to the Battle of Alberta and the ground that comes with it.
They're hooked, now.
"Everyone here is a competitive guy, and especially with the rivalry everyone wants it," centre Luke Esposito said from the dressing room of the Downtown Community Arena. "When you wear this sweater, Calgary always has a target on their back and the same for us to them. A win is always what we're looking for, and against Calgary especially."

Exacting revenge against the Flames Rookies amplifies the importance of tonight's matchup for the 20 players who will suit up in the Blue and Orange after shaking out the jitters of Rookie Camp back in game one.
"First game the nerves are definitely a factor," Vesey said. "Personally I was a bit anxious before the game being my first pro game and all, so with a couple games under our belts now tonight will be a different story."
Even with no points up for grabs, playing for pride is important to the players and coaching staff.
"The big thing for our group is even though we don't base our judgments on the game in Calgary on the score, we're proud people and we want to go give our best effort tonight in Red Deer," Woodcroft added.
TURNING HEADS
Wednesday's meeting with the Flames for the Oilers Rookies will be their final opportunity to impress before Main Camp begins tomorrow.
There will be a couple more bodies in the press box tonight in Red Deer when it comes to evaluating the prospects, including Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan and President of Hockey Operations and GM Peter Chiarelli.
"I would say these young guys are competing for a spot in Main Camp, which begins in earnest with a meeting [Thursday night]," Woodcroft added. "I think opportunity is quite clear in front of each and every player. It's an opportunity not only to impress the coaching staff, but the NHL coaching staff will be watching the game as well as the GM.
"It's an important night for the 20 players that will be in the lineup."
Rookie Camp has provided the Oilers Rookies with the platform to grow and showcase their game heading into the crunch time of tryouts for the prospects.

"I really just wanted to show that I'll do anything the organization needs me, whether that's play different positions, penalty kill, or power play," Esposito said. "Just work hard every day and show through my work ethic that I can earn a spot on the team."
Whether or not the rookies can crack the Oilers NHL lineup, the experience provides valuable feedback the players can take back to their respective junior and college teams this upcoming season.
"It's been a good experience," University of Nebraska Omaha centre Tyler Vesel said. "First rookie camp, played a few pro games last year [with Bakersfield] which has helped out a lot. Just trying to get my confidence level up and turn some heads a little bit. Even if I don't make it right away, maybe down the road something good will happen."
