Maroon Nominated

The Edmonton chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) has named forward Pat Maroon as the Edmonton Oilers nominee for the 2017 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
The Masterton Trophy, awarded since the 1967-68 season, is given annually to the player "who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey". The PHWA chapters from all 30 NHL teams nominate one player from the team they cover and the winner of the award is selected by a poll among the 30 chapters of the PHWA at the end of the regular season schedule.

Maroon, 28, is in his sixth NHL season and his second season with the Oilers. He has posted career highs in points (39) and goals (25) this season and is currently third on the team with 25 goals, one short of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who both have 26 goals. Maroon's previous career highs were 34 points and 12 goals. He has appeared in all 74 games this season and ranks third on the Oilers in plus/minus at +13. He is also tied for third in shooting percentage (15.1) and is fourth on the team with 174 hits.
The 6'3", 230-pound forward was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 6th round, 161st overall in the 2007 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 292 career NHL games with Anaheim and Edmonton, accumulating 130 points (59G, 71A) and 372 penalty minutes. He has also played in 29 playoff games, posting 18 points (9G, 9A) and 44 penalty minutes.
This marks the first time in Maroon's career where he has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
