Edmonton— The Board of Governors at MacEwan University has agreed to support, in principle, partnering with the City of Edmonton in the development of the Downtown Community Rink. The proposed cost for the Downtown Community Rink is $21 million.
It is being proposed that MacEwan University contribute $2 million in one-time funding towards this project. In return, MacEwan University would have access to the new Downtown Community Rink for its interuniversity sport, recreational and academic programming, when the Community Rink is completed.
The funds will be used to increase seating capacity as per Canada West/Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) requirements. MacEwan University is currently in the process of seeking admission to Canada West/CIS Athletics Associations.
