In a unique setting where winners have the option to take cash or prizes, the odds have never been better. The fourth annual lottery provides entrants with a 1-in-15 chance to win at least one of over 4,500 prizes, including the early bird Aston Martin V8 (or $135,000 in cash) and 4,700 square-foot grand prize show home (or $2 million in cash).
“It's a very exciting day for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” said Natalie Minckler, Executive Director of the EOCF. “The show home is custom-built by Carriage Signature Homes. It will come professionally decorated, fully furnished and landscaped. Everything that you see here is what the winner will get, should they choose to keep the home.”
Proceeds from the Winner’s Choice Lottery will support the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and its ongoing support of Edmonton’s Inner City High School, which is now housed in a new location.
“We've got a new building that the Foundation has purchased for us,” said Dr. Joe Cloutier, Director of Inner City High School. “It feels nice for people to come into. We're able to serve more youth.
“The building and environment and the support of the Edmonton Oilers has been great for us.”
“We've been involved with Inner City High School for about six years now,” Minckler added. “Our support of their school came at a time when there was nobody in the City of Edmonton stepping up to the plate and helping these kids achieve a high school education.
“With one of our core pillars of support being education, it’s an extremely worthwhile cause.”
Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff
also attended Wednesday’s event and commented on how the Oilers’ continued community support is an integral component of what makes Oil Country a special place.
“There's a lot of work that goes into this and each year the houses get better and better,” he said. “It goes to a fantastic cause. Last year we got a chance to really spend some time with those kids [at Inner City High School], and we ended up leaving there inspired. It speaks volumes about what the organization is all about.
“It's important. It hits home. When you spend some time with kids like that, you build relationships and you want to see them do well and make their lives better. It's an honour to be involved in something like this. It’s a great day.
“You’d be crazy not to buy a ticket. These prizes are incredible.”
