FIRST PERIOD

20:00: The puck ended up dropping for this one at 7:45 p.m. MDT. Now it's game time!

18:13: Kings rattle off the first three shots of the game, the best being a wrist shot from Marian Gaborik that's gloved by Oilers netminder Cam Talbot.

15:18: Oilers get on the board first when Connor McDavid rushes the puck up ice. His shot is kicked out by Kings netminder Jonathan Quick but the rebound goes right to Benoit Pouliot who pounds the puck in for the goal. | EDM 1, LA 0

14:56: Kyle Clifford drops the gloves with Luke Gazdic right after a face-off in the Oilers end. The two trade punches for quite a long time before the fight is finally stopped.

13:56: The Kings get the goal back pretty quickly. Jeff Carter's rebound from a tough angle finds its way in off Talbot. | EDM 1, LA 1

9:27: Shots are even at 7-7 just past the opening period's midway point.

1:10: Despite a couple of great chances from McDavid's line and some great zone time from the RNH-Hall-Klinkhammer unit, Oilers only manage a single shot in the back half of the frame. Shots are 9-8 Kings to this point following an extended period of time without a whistle.

0.0: 9-8 Kings is indeed where the shot count ends up for period one.
SECOND PERIOD

20:00: The second period is now underway.

17:10: Clifford got in behind the Oilers defence and tried to slip the puck between the legs of Talbot but the Oilers netminder was equal to the task.

15:55: First minor penalty of the game goes to Jeff Carter for hooking. Oilers head to the power play for the first time.

13:05: Kings kill off the penalty. Oilers manage a trio of shots with the man advantage. Shots are 12-11 Kings now.

6:24: Anze Kopitar wired a shot under the crossbar from the left face-off circle to put L.A. in the lead. | LA 2, EDM 1

5:49:
Shots are now 18-12 for Los Angeles as they've controlled the play for the past eight minutes or so.

3:36: Lauri Korpikoski received two minutes for holding, giving Los Angeles its first power play of the night.

0.0: Final shot count in the period was 14-5 for the Kings. Overall after 40 minutes, L.A. has a 23-13 shot advantage.

THIRD PERIOD

20:00: The third period has begun.

17:49: Oilers announce defenceman Justin Schultz will not be returning to the game due to injury.

14:38: Quick makes an unbelievable save at point-blank range on Rob Klinkhammer. The Oilers winger had the puck alone at the top of the crease before spinning and firing on net but the Kings goaltender extended his right pad to make the save.

11:30: Oilers hold a 6-2 lead in shots through the opening 6:30 of the period.

7:53: Anton Lander gets hauled down by Brayden McNabb in the neutral zone, giving the Oilers a crucial power play opportunity to try and tie the game up.

6:04: On the power play, Hall ties the game, redirecting a feed from Nugent-Hopkins as the Oilers get back on even terms. | EDM 2, LA 2

4:55: Korpikoski received a hooking penalty, allowing the Kings a chance to move back in the lead on the power play.

3:26: Kings regain the lead on a shot by Tanner Pearson down low that finds its way by Talbot with traffic in front. | LA 3, EDM 2

37.8: Oilers have a few close-call chances to score, forcing the Kings to ice the puck. Kings call their 30-second timeout.

17.3: Kings ice it again. Last gasp for the Oil. Net remains empty. This time the Oilers called their 30-second timeout.

3.8: Oilers look to have scored as Jonathan Quick grabs the puck with his glove on a shot by McDavid but his glove looks to be over the line. Horn goes off. It goes to video review. Result is no goal.

0.0: Final shot count is 34-25 for the Kings. Catch up with our LIVE post-game interviews from the Kings and Oilers rooms:
