The Edmonton Oilers play their third game of the regular season tonight. Ryan Smyth is out of the lineup as a healthy scratch while Jesse Joensuu (back) is out due to injury. That means Ryan Hamilton will make his Oilers debut this evening.

17:01: It didn't take long for the Devils to get on the board. 2:59 in, Jaromir Jagr wristed a screened shot from the high slot which beat Oilers starting goaltender Jason LaBarbera low glove side. | NJ 1, EDM 0
13:19: Jordan Eberle gets a penalty for hooking in the offensive zone, giving New Jersey the game's first power play.

11:59: Damien Brunner fires a wrist shot from the top of the left circle after a fake snap shot for the Devils power play goal and two-goal lead. | NJ 2, EDM 0
11:32: Will Acton gets sent off for cross-checking, sending the Devils back to the power play.

9:26: Steve Bernier takes a penalty and gives the Oilers their first man advantage of the night.

8:05: A bronx cheer from the fans after the Oilers register their first shot on goal, Jordan Eberle close range on Martin Brodeur.

3:41: Holding penalty to Andy Greene puts Edmonton back on the power play.

2:08: After knocking down a pass, Hemsky fans on a rolling puck with a wide-open net. Brodeur scrambles over to smother it and force a whistle.

0:00: Shots on goal after the first period were 8-7 for the Oilers, after the Devils initially had a 5-0 lead in shots.


20:00: The puck has dropped for the second period of play. During the first intermission, the Oilers honoured Joey Moss and his 50th birthday.

16:37: Ales Hemsky dishes the puck up ice and then retrieves it at centre ice, creating a three-on-one. He makes a nice move but his shot is gloved by Brodeur.

15:26: Michael Ryder dances into the Oilers zone and makes a couple of nifty moves before wiring the puck top corner from below the right circle hashmarks, extending the Devils lead to 3-0. | NJ 3, EDM 0
15:01: Mike Brown drops the gloves with Bryce Salvador. In a spirited bout that saw both combatants land some heavy blows, Brown eventually ended up knocking Salvador to the ice.

7:39: With more than half the second period gone, shots on goal are 11 apiece.

4:37: Oilers take a bench minor for having too many men on the ice.

2:58: David Perron appeared to get injured during an exchange near the Oilers bench. He crawled into the bench and then was immediately attended to by the trainers. He returns for a shift late in the period.

15:15: Oilers announce that Ryan Hamilton is out with a knee injury and will not be returning to the game.

14:40: Salvador took a delay-of-game penalty to give the Oiler s a man advantage with a chance to draw back within a goal.

14:17: 23 seconds into the man advantage, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins spots a loose puck at the side of the net and jams it in to put the Oilers on the board. David Perron's assist was his 200th NHL point. | NJ 3, EDM 1

10:32: After Justin Schultz missed the net on a shot, the puck ricocheted around the boards to Andrew Ference who one-timed it past Brodeur from the left point to draw the Oilers to within one. | NJ 3, EDM 2
8:13: Off the faceoff, David Perron jumps on a loose puck near the dot and wrists it past Brodeur to pull the Oilers back on even terms. | EDM 3, NJ 3
6:30: Taylor Hall puts the Oilers in the lead, picking up the puck in the slot and slipping it past Brodeur to make it four goals in less than eight minutes as the team rallies all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to take the lead. | EDM 4, NJ 3
3:40: Hall has a breakaway but his shot is denied by Brodeur.

2:51: Zubrus clips Jeff Petry with a high stick, giving the Oilers a power play with not much time left on the clock.

0:53: Patrik Elias backhands the puck and it ricochets off a skate in front past LaBarbera to pull the Devils on even terms with the extra attacker on the ice. | EDM 4, NJ 4

0:00: After regulation time, shots on goal are 24-21 for Edmonton.


5:00: Overtime is now underway.

0:00: Oilers and Devils each have two shots apiece in the extra frame but neither team really threatens to win it.
