FIRST PERIOD

20:00: Tonight's game is now underway.

16:30: Islanders carried the play early, outshooting the Oileres 3-0 through the opening four minutes.

15:50: John Tavares set up Colin McDonald for what looked like an easy tap-in but he fanned on the puck.

13:30: Fasth made a save on a quick redirection from Brock Nelson. Nelson then swatted at a rebound that wasn't there and the Oilers took exception to it, swarming him with some pushing and shoving. 

10:06: The first power play of the game went to Edmonton after Anders Lee got two for hooking.

9:43: 23 seconds into the man advantage, the Oilers struck to take the lead. Ryan Hamilton tipped a shot from the left circle by Nail Yakupov past Islanders starting goaltender Jaroslav Halak to make it 1-0 Edmonton. The goal was Hamilton's first in his NHL career. | EDM 1, NYI 0



9:31: Matt Hendricks cleared the puck over the glass from his own zone to send New York on the PP.

8:43: Lee tried to backhand the puck off Fasth's pads and in from the side of the net but the puck just narrowly missed the net on the ricochet.

6:40: New York finally struck even strength after a handful of great chances on the power play. Colin McDonald dished the puck up to Matt Martin who fired it on net. McDonald was perched at the side of the net to put home the rebound on the backhand. | EDM 1, NYI 1



6:12: Brian Strait gets two minutes for high sticking, sending Edmonton back on the power play. Shots on goal with six minutes to play in the first are 11-5 for New York.

0.0: Shot count in the period ends up 11-8 for the Islanders.

SECOND PERIOD

20:00: Second period has started.

13:13: Shots in the period are 2-2 nearly seven minutes in.

8:52: Islanders start pressing for the go-ahead goal. Fasth makes a big save on a John Tavares one-timer from the right circle. 

8:33: New York finally does get that go-ahead marker. Thomas Hickey's shot from the point was tipped by Josh Bailey and sailed over the shoulder of Fasth for the goal. | NYI 2, EDM 1



5:04: Josh Bailey and Matt Hendricks did some pushing and shoving with some fists flying after the whistle. Result of the skirmish was two minutes for roughing to Hendricks and two for roughing plus two for cross-checking to Bailey. Oilers went on the power play.

3:26: In the slot, Anton Lander took a feed from Jordan Eberle and converted with a quick wrist shot to tie the game at 2-2. | EDM 2, NYI 2



1:11: Derek Roy heads to the box for two minutes, giving the Islanders a power play. 

0.0: Shots on goal after 40 minutes are 23-21 for New York.

THIRD PERIOD

20:00: Period three starts now.

14:59: Five minutes into the third, the only four shots on goal were by Edmonton. Ryan Hamilton and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins both had the best chances close in.

13:23: Eberle picked up a rebound at the top of the crease after Oscar Klefbom wristed it on net from the point. Eberle's rebound went off the post and was then smothered by Halak. 

10:45: Shots are now 8-0 Oilers in the period.

5:00: Oilers completely dominate the Islanders in their end, cycling the puck for several minutes. The Islanders get a bronx cheer when they finally clear the puck out of the zone.

4:37: Islanders come back and score to take the lead. Casey Cizikas takes a shot in the slot and it finds its way past Fasth for the 3-2 lead. | NYI 3, EDM 2

0.0: Final shot count is 35-28 Edmonton (14-5 in the third period) but the Oilers fall 3-2.
